Rongdhonu Essential Oils, Herbs and Powders

Rongdhonu sells single-ingredient herbal products: essential oils, cold-pressed carrier oils, and dried herbs and clays ground into powders. Almost everything in the range is one plant or one mineral rather than a formulation.

The range is split between Natural Care & Wellness and the haircare shelves. The sections below group it by what each thing is, because the names alone rarely say.

Which Rongdhonu This Is

The name Rongdhonu also belongs to Rongdhonu Group, a Bangladeshi conglomerate with interests in property, retail and media.

This page is the herbal products brand — oils, herbs and powders. It is not the group, not a shopping centre and not a property company. If that is what you were looking for, nothing on this page will help.

Rosemary — Oil and Leaves

Between them these two are the reason most people reach this brand, and they are used for the same thing: hair.

What the evidence actually says

Rosemary oil has been studied for pattern hair loss and the results are genuinely encouraging, with one well-known trial finding it comparable to a low-strength minoxidil over six months. The evidence base is small, and that is worth knowing alongside the result rather than instead of it.

Six months is the realistic timescale, not six weeks. And as with any scalp treatment, hair loss that has a medical cause — thyroid, iron deficiency, a recent illness, pregnancy — is not reached by anything applied to the scalp.

Never apply an essential oil neat

Rosemary essential oil is concentrated and goes into a carrier oil before it touches skin — a few drops in a tablespoon is the usual ratio, and the carrier oils further down this page are what it goes into.

Undiluted essential oil on the scalp causes irritation, and in some people sensitisation that makes every later use worse. The leaves are used differently: simmered into water and the cooled liquid used as a rinse, or infused into a carrier oil over days.

The Other Essential Oils

Most sit under Hair Oil & Tonics, with two on Herbs for Hair Care.

The rules that apply to all of them

Dilute before skin contact, every time. Patch test on the inner forearm and wait a day before using anything new on a larger area. Keep them away from eyes and out of reach of children.

Do not swallow essential oils. A small quantity of a concentrated oil can be genuinely dangerous, particularly to a child, and eucalyptus and clove are among the ones most often involved in poisonings.

Who should ask first

Pregnancy and breastfeeding, epilepsy, asthma, and any use on or near a baby or small child. Several of these oils are specifically not recommended in those situations, and a pharmacist can say which.

Carrier and Cold-Pressed Oils

What a carrier oil is for

These are the oils an essential oil is diluted into, and they are usable on their own. Almond and sunflower are light, castor is very thick, jojoba is closest to the skin’s own sebum and is the one least likely to feel greasy on a face.

Castor oil needs cutting

It is thick enough to be difficult to wash out on its own, which is why most people mix it half and half with a lighter oil. Used neat on the scalp it is the usual reason someone reports that oiling left their hair greasy for days.

Oiling helps hair break less, not grow more

An oil reduces the water a hair shaft takes up and loses during washing, and that swelling is what weakens hair over time. Less breakage is a real effect with a real mechanism. Reaching the follicle and producing new hair is not.

Powders for Hair

Henna is a colour as well as a conditioner

Pure henna powder stains hair a red-orange that is permanent and cannot be lifted out. On dark hair the effect is subtle; on grey or light hair it is not, and it is not reversible with a shampoo.

It also interacts with chemical hair colour, so it is worth telling a salon if you have used henna. And a “black henna” product is not henna at all — it is henna with added dye, and it is the cause of the severe reactions associated with the name.

Clays and Face Powders

Multani mitti is a clay. It absorbs surface oil, which makes skin look matte and pores look smaller for a day or so. It is drying by design: once or twice a week is the ceiling, and it comes off while still tacky rather than after it has cracked.

Wild turmeric stains, on skin and on fabric, and the stain is worse on lighter skin and takes days to fade. Use it in a pack rather than neat, test a small area first, and keep it off good towels.

Powders Taken Internally

Under Herbs for Personal Care and Herbs for Immunity.

Herbal does not mean inert

A plant preparation strong enough to have an effect is strong enough to have an interaction. Tell your doctor and pharmacist what you take, including anything herbal, and raise it before surgery, during pregnancy, and whenever a new prescription is written.

Do not stop a prescribed medicine in order to take something from this page.

Symptoms that need a diagnosis

Tiredness, low mood, poor sleep and sexual difficulty all have causes worth finding, and several of them — anaemia, thyroid disease, diabetes, depression — are common and treatable. Treating any of those with a tonic delays the part that would actually help.

Storage

Essential oils go in a tightly closed dark bottle, away from heat and sunlight. They degrade in light, and citrus oils such as sweet orange have the shortest life of all.

Carrier oils go rancid — check the smell before use and discard anything that has turned. Powders need to be kept dry and sealed, because a herbal powder that has taken up moisture will clump and spoil.

Keep all of it out of reach of children. A bottle of essential oil is small, concentrated and, in a young child’s hands, genuinely dangerous.

Where Rongdhonu Sits on Arogga

This page collects one brand across herbal and beauty shelves. Those shelves collect one ingredient across brands, which is the comparison worth making when the choice is between this rosemary oil and another at the same volume.

Sizes and stock change, so the listing is the record, and several items here appear at more than one size.

About Rongdhonu

Rongdhonu’s range on Arogga is built on single ingredients rather than formulations: nine essential oils, six carrier oils, and a set of dried herbs, clays and powders.

Rosemary is what the brand is known for here, as both an oil and dried leaves, and between them those two draw most of the interest in the catalogue. Most listings carry the Bangla name in brackets alongside the English one, which is useful because several of these ingredients are far better known locally by the Bangla name.

The name is also typed as rongdhanu and searched in Bangla as রংধনু.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I put rosemary essential oil straight on my scalp?

No. Essential oils are concentrated and go into a carrier oil first — a few drops in a tablespoon is the usual ratio. Neat application causes irritation and, in some people, sensitisation that makes every later use worse.

2. Does rosemary oil really help hair growth?

It has been studied for pattern hair loss with encouraging results, including a trial finding it comparable to a low-strength minoxidil over six months. The evidence base is small. Six months is the realistic timescale, and loss with a medical cause is not reached by anything applied to the scalp.

3. Are essential oils safe to swallow?

No. A small quantity of a concentrated oil can be genuinely dangerous, especially to a child, and eucalyptus and clove are among those most often involved in poisonings. Keep every bottle out of reach of children.

4. Which carrier oil should I use?

Almond and sunflower are light and general-purpose. Jojoba is closest to skin’s own sebum and least likely to feel greasy on a face. Castor is very thick and is usually mixed half and half with a lighter oil, or it is hard to wash out.

5. Will henna powder colour my hair?

Yes. Pure henna stains a red-orange that is permanent and cannot be lifted out — subtle on dark hair, not at all subtle on grey or light hair. Tell a salon if you have used it, because it interacts with chemical colour.

6. How often can I use a multani mitti pack?

Once or twice a week. It is a clay that absorbs surface oil and it is drying by design. Rinse it while it is still tacky rather than letting it crack, which dries the skin underneath without adding anything.

7. Can I take herbal powders with my regular medicines?

Ask first. A plant preparation strong enough to have an effect is strong enough to have an interaction. Tell your doctor and pharmacist everything you take, and raise it before surgery, in pregnancy and whenever a new prescription is written.
