SAFE
Consuming alcohol with Zilapro does not cause any harmful side effects.
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Zilapro is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Zilapro is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.
Avoid prolonged use of Zilapro, since it may have possible effects such as rash and diarrhea.
UNSAFE
Zilapro may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
CAUTION
Zilapro should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Zilapro may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

Zilapro is safe to use in patients with liver disease. No dose adjustment of Zilapro is recommended.

How to use Zilapro
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Zilapro may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
How Zilapro works
Zilapro is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive.
What if you forget to take Zilapro?
If you miss a dose of Zilapro, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Quick Tips
- Your doctor has prescribed Zilapro to cure your infection and improve your symptoms.
- Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection harder to treat.
- Discontinue Zilapro and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing.
- Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it does not stop or if you find blood in your stools.
- Take it with food to avoid an upset stomach.
- Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Zilapro as it may cause increased side effects.
Brief Description
Indication
Pharyngitis, Susceptible infections, Sinusitis, Otitis media, Skin and skin structure infections, Tonsillitis, Respiratory tract infections, Acute Maxillary Sinusitis, Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
Administration
May be taken with or without food. May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Adult Dose
Pharyngitis & Tonsillitis
500 mg PO qDay for 10 days
Respiratory Tract Infections, Skin Infections
250-500 mg q12hr OR 500 mg qDay for10 days
Child Dose
Child: PO 15–30 mg/kg/day q12h
Renal Dose
Renal impairment:

<30 Half normal dose.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity.
Mode of Action
Cefprozil inhibits cell wall synthesis and has activity against a broad range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Precaution
Hypersensitivity to penicillins; renal impairment; porphyria. Monitor renal and haematologic status. Pregnancy, lactation.
Lactation: low distribution into breast milk; use with caution

Interaction
Renal excretion delayed by probenecid. Decreases contraceptive effect of oestrogen-containing oral contraceptives.
