How Glycine works
Glycine is a sterile, nonpyrogenic aqueous solution. It is a neutral and clear solution that helps to provide a high degree of visibility during urological (bladder, prostate, and urethra) surgeries and makes it easier for the surgeon to operate. Its action as a lavage (cleansing solution) helps to remove blood and tissue fragments from the surgical field. Post surgery it also prevents any blockage of the catheter.

Indication
Prostatic or bladder surgery, Orthopedics Surgery
Adult Dose
Irrigation solution is administered as drip through the bi-luminal catheter and can be continued as required.
Contraindication
Patients with anuria.
Mode of Action
Sterile solutions of glycine 1.5% in water are used for urogenital irrigation during certain surgical procedures, especially transurethral resection of the prostate.
Precaution
Cardiovuscular disease, impaired renal & liver function.
Side Effect
Nausea, salivation, electrolyte loss, diuresis, edaema, thirst, dehydration, cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders.
