How to use Daivonex Ointment

How Daivonex Ointment works
Daivonex Ointment is a synthetic form of vitamin D belonging to the class of medicines called ‘anti-psoriatics’. It lowers the rate with which skin cells grow, thereby controlling the psoriatic condition.
What if you forget to take Daivonex Ointment?
If you miss a dose of Daivonex Ointment, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Quick Tips
- Tell your doctor if you are or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding. In case you have been advised to use this drug while breast feeding, do not apply it on breast area.
- Before using calcipotriol, inform your doctor if you are taking ultraviolet (UV) light treatment.
- Excessive exposure to sunlight should be avoided while on this treatment.
- If you have been diagnosed with psoriasis types like ‘generalised pustular psoriasis’ or ‘erythrodermic exfoliative psoriasis’, consult your doctor before using calcipotriol.
- Application of calcipotriol on face is not recommended.
Brief Description
Indication
Plaque psoriasis, Scalp psoriasis, Alopecia areata
Adult Dose
Adult: Topical Plaque psoriasis As cream/oint: Apply 1-2 times/day.
Max: 100 g per wk.
Scalp psoriasis As soln: Apply 1-2 times/day.
Max: 60 mL per week.
Child Dose
Topical/Cutaneous
Mild to moderate plaque psoriasis
Child: Apply cream/ointment 2 times daily.
Max: >12 yr: 75 g/wk; 6-12 yr: 50 g/week.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity.
Mode of Action
Calcipotriol is a derivative of vitamin D3. It has the property of inducing differentiation and suppression of keratinocytes.
Precaution
Not to be applied on the face; pregnancy and lactation.
Side Effect
Skin irritation, erythema, scaling; hypercalcemia w/ high doses.
