Introduction

Bimatol is a prescription medicine having a combination of medicines that is used for the treatment of pressure in the eyes (ocular hypertension) and glaucoma. How to use Bimatol

This medicine is for external use only. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid.

How Bimatol works

Bimatol is a combination of two medicines: Bimatoprost and Timolol. Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analogue while Timolol is a beta blocker. They work by decreasing the production of aqueous humour (fluid in the eye), thereby lowering the increased eye pressure.

Quick Tips

You have been prescribed Bimatol to lower high pressure in the eye and reduce the risk of vision loss.

Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute, immediately after instilling the drop.

If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before putting in these eye drops and wait at least 15 minutes before putting your lenses back in.

Do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface, or to your eye, to avoid contaminating the eye drops.

It may cause short term blurring of vision when first used. Use caution before driving or using machines.

It may temporarily cause your eyelashes to grow longer, darker, and thicker. This is not harmful.

It may cause brown pigmentation of the eye when used long-term. This may be permanent but is not harmful.

Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.

Indication

Reduction of intra-ocular pressure in adult patients with, open-angle glaucoma, ocular hypertension

Adult Dose

Adult: Eye drop: The recommended dose is one drop in the affected eye(s) once-daily.

Child Dose

Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.

Contraindication

It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient of this formulation.

Precaution

The active substances Timolol/ Bimatoprost may be absorbed systemically. Due to the beta-adrenergic component, Timolol, the same types of cardiovascular, pulmonary and other adverse reactions as seen with systemic beta-blockers may occur. Caution should be exercised in treating patients with severe or unstable and uncontrolled cardiovascular Disease.

Side Effect

26% Ocular hyperemia 5-10% Decreased visual acuity, eye discomfort, foreign body sensation, pain and pruritis

Interaction

There is a potential for bradycardia when ophthalmic beta-blockers solution is administered concomitantly with oral calcium channel blockers, guanethidine, beta-adrenergic blocking agents, parasympathomimetics, anti-arrhythmic and digitalis glycosides. Concomitant ocular medications should be administered at least 5 min apart from the instillation of this Eye Drops.
