Introduction
Remdevir IV Infusion is a multi-purpose antiviral medicine. It is used to treat suspected or laboratory-confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in adults and children admitted to the hospital with severe disease. The medication decreases the viral load in the body and increases the healing process. Remdevir IV Infusion works by inhibiting RNA polymerase, an RNA-dependent enzyme that allows the SARS-CoV-2 virus to replicate itself. It is administered via injection into veins under the guidance of a doctor. You should only use Remdevir IV Infusion if your doctor has prescribed it. Take it just as prescribed by your doctor. Remdevir IV Infusion should not be taken on your own.
Uses of Remdevir IV Infusion
Remdevir IV Infusion use as a treatment of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Side effects of Remdevir IV Infusion
Common
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Headaches
- Rashes
- Increased liver enzymes
How to use Remdevir IV Infusion
Remdevir IV Infusion will be given via intravenous infusionto only.It will be given by a doctor or medical professional. Please avoid self-administration.
How Remdevir IV Infusion work
Remdevir IV Infusion is a broad-spectrum antiviral. It works by inhibiting RNA polymerase, an RNA-dependent enzyme that helps the SARS-CoV-2 virus replicate itself. As a result, the body's viral load decreases.
What if you forget to take Remdevir IV Infusion?
Please consult your doctor if you miss a dose of Remdevir IV Infusion .
Indication
Indicated for the treatment of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Administration
It must be administered via intravenous infusion only. Do not administer by any other
route.Recommended Rate of Infusion- Diluted Remdesivir for Injection Lyophilized Powder in Adults and Pediatric Patients Weighing > 40 kg
Infusion bag 250 ml:
Infusion Time: 30 min, Rate of Infusion: 8.33 ml/min
Infusion Time: 60 min, Rate of Infusion: 4.17 ml/min
Infusion Time: 120 min, Rate of Infusion: 2.08 ml/min
Infusion bag 100 ml:
Infusion Time: 30 min, Rate of Infusion: 3.33 ml/min
Infusion Time: 60 min, Rate of Infusion: 1.67 ml/min
Infusion Time: 120 min, Rate of Infusion: 0.83 ml/min
Adult Dose
Adults requiring invasive mechanical ventilation and/or ECMO should receive a single loading dose of Remdesivir 200 mg on day one, followed by a once-daily maintenance dose of Remdesivir 100 mg for 9 days.
The recommended dose for adults who do not require invasive mechanical ventilation or ECMO is a single dose of Remdesivir 200 mg on day one, followed by a once-daily maintenance dose of Remdesivir 100 mg for four days. If a patient dose does not show clinical improvement, treatment may be extended for up to 5 more days (for a total of 10 days).
Remdesivir will be administered intravenously in a total volume of up to 250 mL 0.9% saline over 30 to 120 minutes.
Child Dose
For patients weighing between 3.5 kg and 40 kg, calculate the mg/kg dose based on their weight.
Renal Dose
Not recommended in patients with eGFR less than 30 mL per minute.
Contraindication
Remdesivir is not recommended for patients who have a known hypersensitivity to it.
Mode of Action
It is a broad-spectrum antiviral medication. It works by inhibiting an RNA-dependent enzyme called RNA polymerase, which helps the SARS-CoV-2 virus replicate itself. This reduces the viral load in the body.
Precaution
Hypersensitivity, including infusion-related and anaphylactic reactions.
Higher risk of transaminase elevations.
Risk of decreased antiviral activity when combined with chloroquine phosphate or hydroxychloroquine sulfate. Hypersensitivity Including Infusion-related and Anaphylactic Reactions. Increased Risk of Transaminase Elevations. Risk of Reduced Antiviral Activity When Co-administered with Chloroquine Phosphate or
Hydroxychloroquine Sulfate.
Side Effect
In clinical trials, elevated liver transaminases were observed as an adverse reaction to Remdesivir in healthy adult patients.
Pregnancy & Lactation Category Note
Pregnancy:
It may be unsafe to take when pregnant. Although there have been few human research, animal studies have revealed negative impacts on the growing fetus. Before prescribing it to you, your doctor will consider the advantages and hazards. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation:
There is no information available about the presence of Remdesivir in human milk, the effects on breastfed infants, or the effects on milk production. Because of the risk of viral transmission of SARS-CoV-2 negative infants and adverse drug reactions in breastfeeding infants, the developmental and health benefits of breastfeeding should be considered alongside the mother's clinical need for Remdesivir and any potential adverse effects on the breastfed child from Remdesivir or the underlying maternal condition.
Interaction
Due to antagonism observed in cell culture, chloroquine
phosphate or hydroxychloroquine sulfate is not recommended use with remdesivir.
There have been no human drug-drug interaction trials with it and other medications. Remdesivir and its metabolites can act as substrates or inhibitors of enzymes and transporters involved in drug metabolism in vitro. The clinical relevance of these in vitro assessments is not established.
