Sesa Hair Oil & Shampoo in Bangladesh

Sesa is an Ayurvedic hair oil first and a shampoo brand second. The oil is what the brand is mostly bought for here. It is a herbal preparation cooked rather than blended, and that is the part that makes it different from an ordinary scented hair oil.

Price, size, and stock are live in the grid above. Below: what is actually in the oil, how it is meant to be used, and where the shampoos fit.

The Herbal Hair Oil

One product carries this brand. It is stocked in several sizes, and the smallest is the one most people start with:

A 500ml bottle is asked for regularly. There is no 500ml hair oil in this range — the oil runs to 200ml, and the 500ml bottles are shampoo. The nearest large size is the 200ml.

What Makes It Ayurvedic

Sesa is made by a process called kshira pak, in which herbs are simmered in oil and milk until the water has gone and only the oil remains, carrying what has been extracted. That is slow, and it is the reason an Ayurvedic oil costs more than a scented mineral oil.

The herb list is long — the brand counts it in dozens — and the honest summary is that this is a traditional preparation with centuries of use behind it rather than a clinically trialled treatment. It conditions the scalp and the hair shaft, and people use it because it suits them.

How to Oil Hair Properly

The Method

Hair oiling is a routine most households here already know, and the details still get missed.

  • Warm the oil slightly. Not hot — body temperature. Warm oil spreads and penetrates better than cold oil out of a bottle.
  • Work it into the scalp, not the hair. Part the hair in sections and apply along the partings with fingertips, then work down the lengths with what is left on your hands.
  • Massage for a few minutes. Fingertips, not nails, in small circles. This is the part that matters most and the part people rush.
  • Leave it on for thirty minutes to overnight. Longer is not better past a night, and oil left on for days invites scalp problems rather than solving them.
  • Wash it out properly. Shampoo onto oily hair before wetting it, then rinse. Adding water first makes the oil harder to lift.

How Often

Twice a week is plenty. Daily oiling on an oily scalp causes more problems than it solves.

Hair Fall — What an Oil Reaches

Most people arriving at this brand are worried about hair fall, so it is worth being clear about which half of the problem an oil addresses.

Oiling reduces breakage. It lubricates the shaft so strands slide past each other instead of snapping; it reduces the friction of combing and tying; and it conditions a dry scalp. Those are real, and they are mechanical.

Shedding from the root is a different problem with causes inside the body — iron deficiency, thyroid, illness, pregnancy, hereditary thinning. No oil reaches any of them. Hair coming out at the root, a parting that is visibly widening, or sudden heavy shedding is worth a doctor’s appointment early, because several of those causes respond well to treatment and badly to delay.

The Shampoos

Anti-Hair Fall

Three variants, each in more than one size, and they are formulated to pair with the oil rather than to replace it:

Black Silk and Anti Dandruff

Black Silk and Shine is for dark hair that has gone dull, and the anti-dandruff variant treats the scalp rather than the hair:

Dandruff that does not settle with a medicated shampoo, or a scalp that is red, weeping, or painful, is a skin condition rather than a cosmetic problem and needs a doctor.

Serums

Two leave-in products sit above the wash routine and do different things. Pro Shine is a frizz serum applied to the lengths; the Ayuscience serum goes on the scalp:

A scalp serum and a shine serum are not interchangeable. One is a treatment applied to the skin and left on; the other is a styling product for the hair shaft and goes nowhere near the roots.

Building the Routine

The brand is designed to be used as a sequence rather than as separate purchases, and it is a short sequence.

  • Twice a week — oil, massage, leave, wash out with the shampoo.
  • Other wash days — shampoo alone.
  • After washing — shine serum on damp lengths if frizz is the concern.

Give it two months before judging. Hair grows out slowly, and anything that works on breakage shows as new growth reaching length rather than as an overnight change.

Oiling in This Climate

Heat and Humidity Change the Calculation

Hair oiling was designed for climates like this one, and it still needs adjusting for the season. In Dhaka’s humidity a scalp that is already producing oil does not need a long overnight treatment twice a week; once is usually enough, and thirty minutes before washing suits better than sleeping in it.

In winter, the reverse holds. Dry air and cold water make the scalp fla,ke, and that is when a longer application earns its place.

Dust and Pollution

Oiled hair collects dust, and Dhaka has a great deal of it. Oiling on a day you are going out and staying out means walking around with a dust magnet on your head, which is the opposite of what the routine is for.

Oiling the night before a wash day, or on a day spent at home, avoids the whole problem. It is a small scheduling point and it is the difference between the routine helping and the routine making hair look worse.

How People Write the Name

Sesa, sesha, sessa and সিসা are all the same brand, and so is sesa tel — the Bangla word for oil written in English letters. All of them mean this range.

Worth knowing: a search for sesame finds something else entirely. The two words look alike and the products have nothing to do with each other.

What Moves the Figure on a Listing

  • Size. The oil runs from 50ml to 200ml and the shampoos to 500ml, and per millilitre the large bottles are consistently better.
  • Line. The Ayuscience serum sits well above the everyday oil and shampoo.
  • Import. This is an Indian brand reaching Bangladesh through more than one route, so the same bottle does not always land at the same figure.

The listing itself is the only place the current figure is right, which is why none appears here.

Where Sesa Sits on Arogga

Everything is inside Haircare. The oils are under Hair Oil & Tonics and also appear in Hair Masks and Treatments.

The bottles sit in Shampoos, with the fall range in Anti Hairfall Shampoos and the herbal formulations in Natural & Organic Shampoos. The serums are in Hair Serum.

About Sesa

Sesa is made by Ban Labs, an Indian Ayurvedic manufacturer, and the oil has been sold in more or less its present form for decades. It sits in a category that barely exists in Western markets and is entirely ordinary here, which is why it is better known in Bangladesh than its size would suggest.

Ayurvedic preparations are herbal, and herbal does not mean free of reactions. A patch test on the inner forearm before the first full application is a reasonable precaution with any new oil, and a scalp that stings or itches after application is telling you something.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is there a 500ml Sesa hair oil?

No. The oil is stocked from 50ml to 200ml; the 500ml bottles in the grid are shampoo. The 200ml is the largest oil available here.

2. How long should Sesa oil be left on?

Thirty minutes to overnight, twice a week. Longer than a night adds nothing, and oil left on for days tends to cause scalp problems rather than solve them.

3. Will Sesa oil stop hair fall?

It reduces breakage along the length, which is mechanical and real. Shedding from the root has causes inside the body — iron, thyroid, illness, hereditary thinning — and no oil reaches those. Sudden or heavy shedding needs a doctor.

4. What does Ayurvedic mean on this bottle?

The herbs are simmered in oil until the water has gone, so the oil carries what was extracted. It is a traditional preparation with long use behind it rather than a clinically trialled treatment.

5. Should the oil be washed out with the Sesa shampoo?

It pairs well, and the more important point is the technique: shampoo onto oily hair before wetting it, then rinse. Water first makes the oil much harder to lift.

6. What is the difference between the two Sesa serums?

Pro Shine is a frizz serum for the lengths after washing. The Ayuscience serum is applied to the scalp and left on. They are not interchangeable.
