Introduction
Glustin is a medicine used in the treatment of osteoarthritis. It helps in the formation of cartilage and keep the joints lubricated for better movement and flexibility. How to use Glustin
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Glustin is to be taken with food.
What if you forget to take Glustin?
If you miss a dose of Glustin, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.
Quick Tips
- Do not take glucosamine, if you are allergic to glucosamine or shell fish.
- Avoid taking glucosamine, if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
- Doctor's advice should be considered in case of patients with following history of disease conditions: diabetes; high cholesterol or triglycerides; cancer; liver disease; asthma or breathing disorder.
- Do not continue the glucosamine, if you are having surgery.

Indication
Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Nutritional supplement, Low back pain, Acute gout, Degenerative joint disease
Administration
Should be taken with food. Preferably taken at meals.
Adult Dose
Oral
Osteoarthritis; Rheumatoid arthritis
Adult: 500 mg 3-4 times daily.
Max Dosage: 1500 mg/day.
Contraindication
Allergy to shellfish.
Mode of Action
Glucosamine stimulates the production of proteoglycans and increases sulfate uptake by articular cartilage.
Precaution
Diabetic patients, patients on heparin. Pregnancy and lactation.
Side Effect
Possible poor glycemic control in diabetics; monitor blood glucose,Increased intraocular pressure,Constipation,Diarrhea,Drowsiness,Headache,Heartburn,Hyperinsulinemia,Nausea,Skin reactions
Interaction
Glucosamine: May reduce effect of antidiabetic agents, doxorubicin, etoposide, tenoposide. May enhance anticoagulant activity of warfarin.
