Montelukast Price in Bangladesh

Montelukast is a once-daily tablet that calms airway and nasal inflammation. Doctors prescribe it to prevent asthma symptoms, especially in children and in asthma triggered by exercise or allergy, and for the sneezing and blocked nose of allergic rhinitis. A Preventer, Not a Reliever

Montelukast will not open the airways during an attack. Keep a reliever inhaler for that, and use montelukast every day, even on good days, so the inflammation stays down. Most people notice fewer night coughs and less wheeze within a week or two.

Where It Fits in Asthma Treatment

For most people, an inhaled steroid is the main preventer and works better than montelukast alone. Doctors add montelukast when a steroid inhaler is not enough, or use it alone in mild asthma, for children who struggle with inhalers, and for asthma triggered mainly by exercise or allergy. Allergic Rhinitis

For sneezing, an itchy runny nose and congestion during dust season or winter, montelukast is sometimes combined with an antihistamine, particularly when the person also has asthma. On its own it is usually less effective for the nose than a steroid nasal spray. Keeping bedroom dust down, washing pillow covers weekly in hot water and avoiding mosquito coil smoke also reduce symptoms. Mood and Sleep Changes

A small number of children and adults develop nightmares, sleep problems, irritability, anxiety or low mood on montelukast. Rarely this has included suicidal thoughts. Parents should watch for behaviour changes in the first weeks and tell the doctor promptly; stopping usually reverses them. This is the main reason doctors no longer prescribe it casually for a simple cough.

Giving It to Children

Chew, don’t swallow whole — the chewable tablets are made to be chewed.
Granules — mix with a spoon of soft cool food and give at once.
Evening dose — for asthma, usually in the evening.
Right strength — the child’s age decides the tablet, not the parent’s.

Exercise-Triggered Wheeze

Children who cough or wheeze after football or running often benefit from daily montelukast. Taking an extra dose just before sport is not how it works; the regular daily dose builds protection. A reliever puff before exercise is the quick-acting option.

Cough Without Asthma

Montelukast is often given for a lingering cough after a cold. Without wheeze, breathlessness or allergy, there is little evidence it helps, and it carries the mood side effects above. A cough lasting more than three weeks, especially with weight loss or night sweats, needs a chest examination and sputum test for tuberculosis.

Pregnancy, Liver and Other Medicines

Montelukast is used in pregnancy when asthma needs it, because uncontrolled asthma is a bigger risk to the baby; discuss it with your doctor. Zafirlukast can affect the liver and interacts with warfarin, so it needs closer monitoring. Montelukast has few interactions, but phenobarbital and some epilepsy medicines can lower its effect. Tell your doctor about other regular medicines.
