Description

The OGTT (3 Samples) measures how well the body processes glucose. After a fasting blood glucose sample is taken, the patient is given a standard glucose drink (usually 75g), followed by blood samples at 1 and 2 hours post-consumption. This test is especially useful in diagnosing diabetes mellitus, gestational diabetes, and impaired glucose tolerance. Note : Arogga will provide 75 gm glucose (charge applicable).

Overview

Overview:

OGTT (3 samples) is a diagnostic test to evaluate how the body processes glucose. It is primarily used to detect diabetes mellitus, gestational diabetes, and impaired glucose tolerance.

Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment:

OGTT is especially recommended for individuals with:

  • Family history of diabetes
  • Obesity
  • History of gestational diabetes
  • PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)
  • Unexplained recurrent pregnancy loss
  • Hypertension or abnormal lipid profile

Normal range

Normal Range:

  • Fasting: < 100 mg/dL

  • 1-hour: < 180 mg/dL

  • 2-hour: < 140 mg/dL

Interpretation

Interpretation:

The test involves measuring blood glucose levels at:

  1. Fasting

  2. 1 hour after 75g oral glucose intake

  3. 2 hours after 75g oral glucose intake

Typical interpretation:

  • Normal Glucose Tolerance:

    • Fasting < 100 mg/dL

    • 2-hour < 140 mg/dL

  • Impaired Glucose Tolerance (Pre-diabetes):

    • Fasting 100–125 mg/dL

    • 2-hour 140–199 mg/dL

  • Diabetes Mellitus:

    • Fasting ≥ 126 mg/dL

    • 2-hour ≥ 200 mg/dL
(Values may vary slightly by lab reference)

Sample Type

Sample Type:

Venous blood sample
