Description

The PCR HLA-B27 test is a molecular diagnostic test that detects the presence of the HLA-B27 gene using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology. HLA-B27 is a genetic marker associated with a higher risk of developing certain autoimmune disorders, especially ankylosing spondylitis and other spondyloarthropathies. This test helps in diagnosing these conditions by identifying individuals who carry this gene.

How our test process works!

Step 1

Sample Collection

Vaccinated Phlebotomists collects from syringe in the barcoded vials

Step 2

Sample Storage

Only vaccinated phelbos are assigned orders

Step 3

High Tech Facility

Lab ingests the sample into processing machines which are 100% automated

Step 4

Accurate Digital Reports

The reports are generated by the processing machines and clinically correlated by doctors

Overview

Overview:

  • Purpose: Detects the presence of the HLA-B27 gene, which is associated with certain autoimmune diseases, especially ankylosing spondylitis and other spondyloarthropathies.

  • Method: Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplifies the specific HLA-B27 gene sequence from the patient's DNA.

Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment:

  • Positive HLA-B27 increases risk for:

    • Ankylosing spondylitis

    • Reactive arthritis

    • Psoriatic arthritis

    • Inflammatory bowel disease-associated arthritis

  • Negative HLA-B27 does not completely rule out these diseases.

  • Presence of HLA-B27 alone is not diagnostic; clinical correlation is essential.

Normal Range

Normal Range:

  • Normal: Absence of HLA-B27 gene (negative).

  • Abnormal: Presence of HLA-B27 gene (positive).

Interpretation

Interpretation:

  • Positive Result: HLA-B27 gene detected. Patient may have higher susceptibility to associated autoimmune conditions.

  • Negative Result: HLA-B27 gene not detected. Lower likelihood of HLA-B27 related diseases, but does not exclude other causes of symptoms.

Sample Type

Sample Type:

  • Peripheral blood collected in EDTA tube (whole blood) is typically used for DNA extraction.
