Overview
Calcium/Creatinine Ratio, Spot Urine test compares the amount of calcium and creatinine in the urine sample. The test is used to check for hypercalciuria (excess calcium in urine) and to examine how well the kidneys are functioning. It is used to detect kidney diseases like kidney stones, parathyroid diseases, prostate cancer, or bone density disorders. The increased levels of calcium in the urine are typically associated with a number of health concerns like hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D intoxication, multiple myeloma (a condition that destroys bone), and prostate cancer spread to other organs. This test is also done to monitor patients who are taking calcium or vitamin D supplements.
