Tenafin is an antifungal medication. It is used in the treatment of fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, and jock itch. It kills fungi by preventing them from making their protective covering. Tenafin is for external use only. You should use it in the dose and duration as directed by your doctor. The amount you need, and how long you take it will depend on what you are being treated for. You should normally wash and dry the affected area before applying a thin layer of the medicine. Adult Dose

Adult: Topical As 1% cream: For tinea pedis: Apply twice daily for 7 days. not to exceed 4 weeks For tinea corporis, tinea cruris and tinea versicolor: Apply once/twice daily for 2 wk. not to exceed 4 weeks

Child Dose

<12 years old: Safety & efficacy not established >12 years old: As in adults

Contraindication

Application to eye area.

Mode of Action

Butenafine, a benzylamine antifungal, inhibits the enzyme squalene monooxygenase thus decreasing sterol biosynthesis.

Precaution

Avoid occlusive dressings. Avoid contact with mouth, eyes and other mucous membranes. Affected areas should be thoroughly cleansed with soap and dried prior to application. Hands should always be washed after applying cream. Lactation: excretion in milk unknown; use with caution
