SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Tibucef is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
CAUTION
Tibucef should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.

How to use Tibucef
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Tibucef may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
How Tibucef works
Tibucef is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive.
What if you forget to take Tibucef?
If you miss a dose of Tibucef, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Quick Tips
- Your doctor has prescribed Tibucef to cure your infection and improve your symptoms.
- Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection harder to treat.
- Discontinue Tibucef and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing.
- Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it does not stop or if you find blood in your stools.
- Take it with food to avoid an upset stomach.
- Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Tibucef as it may cause increased side effects.

Indication

Administration
Susp: Should be taken on an empty stomach. Take 2 hr before or 1 hr after meals.
Cap: May be taken with or without food.
Adult Dose

Adult: 400 mg once daily for 10 days.
Child Dose
Child:
12 years old or >45 kg: As in adults
Renal Dose
Renal impairment:
CrCl (ml/min)
30-49 200 mg once daily.
5-29 100 mg once daily.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Mode of Action
Ceftibuten inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. It is stable to hydrolysis by many beta-lactamases and has greater activity than 1st or 2nd generation cephalosporins against gm-ve bacteria. It is less active in vitro than cefexime against S. pneumoniae.
Precaution
Hypersensitivity to penicillins; renal impairment; Porphyria. Monitor renal and haematologic status.
Lactation: excretion in milk unknown; use with caution
