Introduction

Desotop Gel is a topical steroid use for treatment of skin conditions with inflammation and itching. It provides relief from swelling, redness, and itching in the affected area by inhibiting the release of substances that cause inflammation. Desotop Gel is only meant for external use and should be used as advised by your doctor. You should normally wash and dry the affected area before applying a thin layer of the medicine. Avoid any contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. Rinse it off with plenty of water in case of accidental contact. Avoid covering the treated area with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor. Using of the medicine may cause burning sensation, irritation, redness, and swelling at the site of application and rash. These are temporary and usually resolve with time. However, if they persist or worsen, let your doctor know. The medicine is not recommended for pregnant women. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctors before using this medicine.

How to use Desotop Gel

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the gel. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.

How Desotop Gel works

Desotop Gel is a mild to moderate strength steroid. It works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy.

  • It should be applied to the affected areas as a thin film two or three times daily, or as advised by your doctor.

  • If you think the area of skin you are treating has become infected you should stop using Desotop Gel and consult your doctor.
  • Consult your doctor if your skin condition has not improved after four weeks of treatment. Do not use it for more than 4 consecutive weeks at a time.

Psoriasis, Eczema, Contact dermatitis, Corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, Seborrheic dermatitis

Adult Dose

Topical/Cutaneous Corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses Adult: Apply sparingly onto the affected areas 2-4 times/day. Discontinue therapy when control is achieved.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to any of the components. Primary infective skin conditions.

Mode of Action

Desonide is a corticosteroid used mainly for its glucocorticoid activity in the treatment of various skin disorders.

Precaution

Caution when using in paed patients. Evaluate periodically for evidence of HPA-axis suppression. In the event of secondary infections use appropriate antibiotics and discontinue topical steroid. Pregnancy and lactation. Lactation: excretion in milk unknown; use with caution
