Introduction

Gastid is a combination medicine used in the treatment of acidity, stomach ulcer, bloating. It neutralizes excessive acid in the stomach and helps in easy passage of gas. Gastid is taken with food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. The most common side effects are chalky taste, diarrhea, and constipation. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. How Gastid works

Administration

Take between meals & at bedtime.

Adult Dose

Oral Adult Tablet: 1-3 tablet, after meals and at bed time.

Child Dose

Oral Children 12 years and older: Tablet: 1-3 tablet, after meals and at bed time.

Contraindication

Patients with known hypersensitivity to magnesium and aluminium. It is also contraindicated in patients with impaired renal functions.

Mode of Action

Magaldrate is a hydroxymagnesium aluminate complex that is rapidly converted in gastric acid to magnesium and aluminium hydroxide, which is poorly absorbed and provides a sustained antacid effect with balanced efects on intestinal motility; increases lower esophageal sphincter tone and inhibits smooth muscle contraction and gastric emptying. Simethicone allows gas bubbles in the stomach and intestines to come together more easily, which allows for easier passage of gas.

Precaution

Care should be taken in decreased kidney function, hypophosphataemia and weak people.
