Introduction
G Cimetidine is an antacid. It reduces the amount of acid produced by your stomach. It is used to treat and prevent heartburn, indigestion and other symptoms caused by too much acid in the stomach. It is also used to treat and prevent stomach ulcers, reflux disease and some other rare conditions. G Cimetidine is also commonly prescribed to prevent stomach ulcers and heartburn caused due to the use of painkillers. How to use G Cimetidine
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. G Cimetidine may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
How G Cimetidine works
G Cimetidine is a histamine H2 receptor antagonist. It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach which helps relieve of acid-related indigestion and heartburn.
What if you forget to take G Cimetidine?
If you miss a dose of G Cimetidine, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Quick Tips
- Take ACITAK 150 MG TABLET before going to bed if you are taking this medicine once a day. It is very effective in controlling stomach acid that is released when you are asleep.
- If you are also taking other medications to treat acidity (e.g., antacid), take them 2 hours before or after taking ACITAK 150 MG TABLET.
- Avoid taking soft drinks, citrus fruits like orange and lemon, which can irritate the stomach and increase acid secretion.
- Inform your doctor if you do not feel better after taking ACITAK 150 MG TABLET for 2 weeks as you may be suffering from some other problems.
- Inform your doctor if you have ever been diagnosed with kidney disease as dose of your medicine may need to be adjusted.
- Inform your doctor about any other medications or supplements that you are taking because ACITAK 150 MG TABLET can interfere with the working of other medications.
- Do not stop taking the medication without talking to your doctor.

Heartburn, Dyspepsia, Peptic ulcers, Benign gastric and duodenal ulceration, Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, Pancreatic insufficiency
Administration
IV Preparation
Solution
Injections: in 5% sodium bicarbonate injection, NS, D5W, D10W or LR to a volume of 20 mL
Infusions: 300 mg in 100 mL D5W
IV Administration
Slow direct IV injection over 5 min or more after dilution to a total of 20 mL with compatible diluent (NS), OR
Intermittent IV infusion over 15 to 20 min in at least 50 mL of compatible diluent, OR
Continuous IV infusion in 100 to 1000 mL of compatible diluent over 24 hr
Adult Dose
Intravenous
Benign gastric and duodenal ulceration
Adult: Intermittent infusion: 300 mg 6-8 hrly infused over 15-20 min. Max: 2400 mg/day.
Continuous infusion: 37.5 mg/hr (900 mg/day). A 150 mg IV loading dose may be given in patients requiring rapid elevation of gastric pH.
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
Adult: Intermittent infusion: 300 mg 6-8 hrly infused over 15-20 min. Max: 2400 mg/day.
Continuous infusion: 37.5 mg/hr (900 mg/day). A 150 mg IV loading dose may be given in patients requiring rapid elevation of gastric pH.

Contraindication
Hypersensitivity, lactation.
Mode of Action
Cimetidine competitively inhibits histamine at H2-receptors of the gastric parietal cells resulting in decreased gastric acid secretion, gastric volume and hydrogen ion concentration. It is also used in patients w/ pancreatic insufficiency to reduce the breakdown of pancreatic enzyme supplements.
Precaution
Impaired renal and hepatic function. Age >50 yr; CV impairment. Pregnancy.

Interaction
Reduces absorption of dasatinib, ketoconazole, itraconazole and posaconazole. May increase serum levels of phenytoin, theophylline, lidocaine, hydroxyzine and oral anticoagulants. Absorption may be reduced by antacids. Decreased bioavailability w/ metoclopramide, sucralfate or propantheline. May potentiate the myelosuppressive effects (e.g. agranulocytosis, neutropenia) of myelosuppressive drugs (e.g. antimetabolites, alkylating agents) or therapies (e.g. radiation).
