UNSAFE
Consuming alcohol while taking Cefoject IM/IV may cause symptoms such as flushing, increased heart beat, nausea, thirst, chest pain and low blood pressure (Disulfiram reaction).
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Cefoject IM/IV is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Cefoject IM/IV is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.
Avoid prolonged use of Cefoject IM/IV, since it may have possible effects such as rash and diarrhea.

Cefoject IM/IV does not usually affect your ability to drive.

How Cefoject IM/IV works
Cefoject IM/IV is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive.
What if you forget to take Cefoject IM/IV?
If you miss a dose of Cefoject IM/IV, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Quick Tips
- Your doctor has prescribed Cefoject IM/IV to cure your infection and improve your symptoms.
- Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection harder to treat.
- Discontinue Cefoject IM/IV and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing.
- Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it does not stop or if you find blood in your stools.
- Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Cefoject IM/IV as it may cause increased side effects.

Indication
Respiratory Tract Infections, Peritonitis and Other Intra-abdominal Infections, Bacterial Septicemia, Infections of the Skin and Skin Structures, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, Endometritis, and Other Infections of the Female Genital Tract, Urinary Tract Infections
Adult Dose
Parenteral
Susceptible infections
Adult: As sodium: 2-4 g daily in 2 divided doses, increased to 12 g daily in 2-4 divided doses for severe infections given as deep IM or IV infusion.
Hepatic impairment: Max for hepatic impairment or biliary obstruction: 4 g daily. W/ renal impairment: 1-2 g daily.
Renal Dose
Renal impairment: W/ hepatic impairment: 1-2 g daily.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin.
Mode of Action
Cefoperazone binds to one or more of the penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) which inhibits the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell wall, thus inhibiting biosynthesis and arresting cell wall assembly resulting in bacterial cell death.
Precaution
History of penicillin allergy; renal or hepatic impairment; pregnancy, lactation; cystic fibrosis.
Side Effect
Skin rash, urticaria; eosinophilia, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting; phloebitis; hypoprothrombinaemia; superinfection.
Potentially Fatal: Neuromuscular hypersensitivity; nephrotoxicity.
Interaction
Disulfiram-like reaction with alcohol. Potentiates anticoagulants.
Potentially Fatal: Enhances nephrotoxicity by aminoglycosides and furosemide.
