How to use Celipress

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Celipress is to be taken empty stomach.

How Celipress works

Celipress is a beta blocker that works specifically on the heart. It works by slowing down the heart rate and makes the heart more efficient at pumping blood around the body.

Quick Tips

It may cause dizziness. If this happens to you, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.

It can hide symptoms of low blood sugar if you are diabetic. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly.

Do not stop taking Celipress suddenly as it can cause your blood pressure to rise suddenly, thereby increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Brief Description

Indication

Hypertension, Angina pectoris

Administration

Should be taken on an empty stomach. Take at least ½ hr before or 2 hr after meals.

Adult Dose

Oral Hypertension Adult: 200-400 mg once daily.

Renal Dose

Renal impairment: CrCl (ml/min) 15-40 100-200 mg/day. <15 Avoid.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity, sinus bradycardia, >1st degree heart block, cardiogenic shock, uncompensated heart failure, hypotensive patients. Pregnancy (2nd and 3rd trimesters).

Mode of Action

Celiprolol is a cardioselective ?-blocker. It exhibits intrinsic sympathomimetic and direct vasodilator activity.

Precaution

Asthma. Lactation.

Side Effect

Nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea; CHF, AV nodal block and bradycardia, palpitations; headache, fatigue, dizziness, insomnia; Raynaud's phenomenon; orthostatic hypotension; bronchial obstruction; tremor, rash, muscle cramps; impotence.

Pregnancy Category Note

Pregnancy Category B in (1st trimester), D in 2nd & 3rd trimesters.

Interaction

May exacerbate rebound HTN upon withdrawal of clonidine. May increase AV conduction time w/ digitalis glycosides. Reduced bioavailability w/ concomitant hydrochlorothiazide, chlorthalidone or theophylline. Concomitant dihydropyridine Ca channel blockers (e.g. nifedipine) may increase the risk of hypotension and heart failure.
