Introduction

Clinacyn is a combination medicine that is prescribed to treat various types of vaginal infections associated with vaginal discharge. It fights against the infection by stopping the growth of infection-causing microorganisms. It also prevents further spread of the infection. Clinacyn is to be used as per the label instructions or as suggested by your doctor. This medicine is only for vaginal application. You must wash your hands before and after using it. It is best to use this at bedtime regularly to get the most benefit. If there is any accidental exposure of the medicine to the eyes or mouth, you must wash immediately. For better efficacy of the medicine, the course of the treatment should be completed even if you feel better. Do not use it more than the recommended dose. Clinacyn may lead to a few common side effects like mild irritation and burning sensation at the application site. If these side effects do not improve with time or worsen, inform your doctor. How Clinacyn works

Clinacyn is a combination of two medicines: Clindamycin and Clotrimazole. Clindamycin is an antibiotic which stops bacterial growth in the vaginal tract by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Clotrimazole is an antifungal which stops the growth of fungi by preventing them from making their protective covering. Together, they treat your vaginal infection effectively.

  • Clinacyn is inserted into the vagina using an applicator, usually at night before going to bed.
  • Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
  • Avoid contact with your eyes. If accidental exposure occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity.Clindamycin cream is also contraindicated in individuals with a history of regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis, or a history of \"antibiotic-associated\" colitis.

Mode of Action

Clindamycin inhibits protein synthesis by reversibly binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosomal thus blocking the transpeptidation or translocation reactions of susceptible organisms resulting to stunted cell growth.

Precaution

The patient should be instructed not to engage in vaginal intercourse, or use other vaginal products during treatment with this product. This cream contains mineral oil that may weaken latex or rubber products such as condoms or vaginal contraceptive diaphragms. Therefore, use of such products within 72 hours following treatment with Clindacin cream is not recommended. Lactation: Excretion in milk unknown; use with caution

Genital tract: vaginitis, vulvo-vaginal irritation Central nervous system: dizziness, headache, vertigo. Gastro-intestinal: heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain. Dermatological: rash, exanthema. Hypersensitivity: urticaria.

Interaction

May enhance the action of neuromuscular blocking agents (e.g. atracurium). May antagonise the effects of parasympathomimetics. May competitively inhibit the effects of macrolides, ketolides, streptogramins, linezolid and chloramphenicol. Increased coagulation tests (prothrombin time/INR) and/or bleeding w/ vit K antagonists (e.g. warfarin, acenocoumarol, fluindione).
