Unveiling Health Insights with Anti SS-A and SS-B Antibody Testing
SSA or Ro is composed of protein antigens of 52 kDa and 60 kDa combined with cytoplasmic RNA species. SSA antibodies occur in patients with several different connective tissue diseases including Sjogren syndrome, an autoimmune disease that involves primarily the salivary and lachrymal glands (up to 90% of cases); systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (40%-60% of cases); and rheumatoid arthritis.

How our test process works!
Overview
- Purpose: The Anti-SS-B (also known as anti-La) test detects autoantibodies against the SS-B/La protein, which is associated with autoimmune disorders.
- Common Use: Helps diagnose Sjogren's syndrome, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), and other connective tissue diseases.
Risk Assessment
- Presence of Anti-SS-B antibodies indicates an increased risk for autoimmune conditions, particularly:
- Sjogren’s syndrome (primary or secondary)
- SLE (less commonly associated compared to Anti-SS-A).
Normal Range
- Negative: No detectable Anti-SS-B antibodies.
- Typically reported as <1.0 U/mL (varies by lab and method).
- Positive: Presence of Anti-SS-B antibodies above the cutoff level.
Interpretation
- Positive Results: Suggestive of:
- Sjogren’s syndrome (often coexists with Anti-SS-A)
- Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
- Other autoimmune diseases
- Negative Results:
- Reduces likelihood but does not exclude these conditions, as not all patients produce these antibodies.
Sample Type
- Blood Sample (Serum): Collected via venipuncture.
