Inhibin B also appears to be a suitable serum marker for epithelial tumors of the mucinous type with about 55% to 60% having elevated inhibin B levels. In contrast, inhibin is not a very good marker in non-mucinous epithelial tumors. At best, total inhibin is elevated in 15% to 35% of non-mucinous epithelial ovarian cancer cases. inhibin B tumor marker tests measure these blood hormone levels to help detect a rare ovarian granulosa cell tumor.

This test measures the inhibin B level in the blood and may be used as part of an infertility evaluation. Inhibin B is made mostly by the ovaries in females, and by the testicles in males
