Description

RA Test (Titre) Description The RA Test measures the level of rheumatoid factor (RF) antibodies in the blood. RF is an antibody that can attack healthy tissue in the body. High levels of RF are often found in people with rheumatoid arthritis and can help in diagnosing the disease. However, high RF levels can also be present in other conditions or in some healthy individuals. Procedure: Sample Collection: A blood sample is drawn from a vein, usually in the arm. Laboratory Analysis: The sample is analyzed in a lab to measure the RF levels. Results: Results are usually given as a titre (ratio), indicating the dilution level at which RF can be detected. Higher titres suggest higher levels of RF. Interpretation: Normal Range: Typically, a titre below 1:80 is considered normal. Elevated RF: A titre of 1:80 or higher may indicate rheumatoid arthritis or another autoimmune condition.

Overview
The RA test helps diagnose rheumatoid arthritis and distinguish it from other types of arthritis and autoimmune disorders. It can also help assess the severity and prognosis of the disease. The test measures the level of RF, which is an antibody that can attack the body's own tissues, leading to inflammation and joint damage.
Risk assesment
The Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) test, often called the Rheumatoid Factor (RF) test, measures the level of rheumatoid factor in the blood. Rheumatoid factor is an antibody found in about 80% of people with rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disorder. However, it can also be present in other conditions and even in healthy individuals, particularly the elderly.
Ranges
Less than 15 International Units per milliliter (IU/mL) or less than 20 IU/mL, depending on the laboratory.
Interpretation
RF levels within the normal range, usually less than 15-20 IU/mL, indicating a low likelihood of rheumatoid arthritis. However, RA can still be present, particularly in early stages or in seronegative cases.
Sample type
A blood sample is drawn from a vein in the arm.
