Overview

A combined screening panel used to detect common sexually transmitted infections. Helps in early diagnosis, treatment planning, and reducing transmission. Often includes tests for HIV, Syphilis (VDRL/TPHA), Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and sometimes Trichomonas/HSV depending on the package.

Risk Assessment

Chlamydia:

  • Risk Assessment: Unprotected sex with multiple partners, not using condoms, prior STD history.

Syphilis:

  • Risk Assessment: High-risk behavior, multiple partners, or exposure to someone with syphilis.

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus):

  • Risk Assessment: High-risk sexual behavior, sharing needles, or unprotected sex with multiple partners.

Hepatitis B and C:

  • Risk Assessment: Unprotected sex, injection drug use, previous blood transfusions, tattoos or piercings in unregulated settings.

Trichomoniasis:

  • Risk Assessment: Unprotected sexual activity with infected partners.

Test Result Interpretation

Interpretation

  • HIV (1&2) Antibody/Antigen

    • Reactive: Suggests infection → confirm with differentiation assay.

    • Non-reactive: No infection or window period.

  • Syphilis (VDRL/RPR + TPHA)

    • VDRL/RPR reactive + TPHA positive: Active or past infection → titer monitoring.

    • VDRL reactive, TPHA negative: Possible biological false positive.

  • HBsAg

    • Positive: Hepatitis B infection.

    • Negative: No infection or early window.

  • Anti-HCV

    • Positive: Past or current infection → confirm with HCV RNA.

    • Negative: No exposure.

  • Chlamydia

    • Positive: Active infection → treat + partner treatment.

    • Negative: No infection.

Sample Types

Blood: For detecting HIV, syphilis, herpes, and hepatitis.

Urine: For detecting chlamydia, trichomoniasis.
