Overview
High levels of urobilinogen in the urine also called Hemolysis can indicate an infection of some kind in the body. Elevated levels can also indicate cancer, or liver cirrhosis which causes the liver to become weak, causing urobilinogen to accumulate within the body. Hemolytic anemia, or the breakdown of red blood cells can also cause increased
Risk assessment
This test as part of your regular checkup or to monitor an existing liver condition. You may also have this test if you have symptoms of a liver disease or hemolytic anemia.
Ranges
Urobilinogen normal range is up to 1.0 mg/dL (16µmol/L): It indicates a healthy liver function. Low urobilinogen in urine is less than 1.0 mg/dL (3.2µmol/L): It typically indicates a bile duct obstruction. High urobilinogen in urine is above 2 mg/dL (16µmol/L): It suggests liver diseases such as hepatitis or cirrhosis
Test result interpretation
Normal urine contains some urobilinogen. Too much urobilinogen in urine may be a sign of a liver disease, such as hepatitis or cirrhosis, or certain types of anemia. Little or no urobilinogen may be a sign of other problems with your liver, gallbladder, or bile ducts. Urobilinogen comes from bilirubin.
