Composition

Each ml Maroxacin-vet™ injection contains Marbofloxacin BP 100 mg
Description
Marbofloxacin is a synthetic, bactericidal antimicrobial, belonging to the 3rd generation
fluoroquinolone group with broad-spectrum activity for gram-positive, gram-negative bacteria and
mycoplasma.
Indication
Indicated for the treatment of diseases caused by both gram-positive/ gram-negative bacteria and
Mycoplasma as Respiratory infections caused by sensitive strains of Pasteurella Multocida,
Mannheimia haemolytica, Histophilus somni and Mycoplasma bovis, Acute mastitis caused by
E.coli strains sensitive to Marbofloxacin during the lactation period.
Dosage & administration
Injection: Treatment of respiratory infections:
Single dose treatment:
4 ml/50 kg body weight (8 mg/kg body weight) through IM route.
Multiple doses treatment:
1 ml/50 kg body weight (2 mg/kg body weight) through IM/SC route for 3-5 days.
Treatment of acute mastitis:
1 ml/50 kg body weight (2 mg/kg body weight) by IM/SC route for 3 days.
The first injection may be given through IV route.
If the volume to be injected is more than 20 ml, it should be divided between two or more injection
sites. It is preferable to inject cattle in the neck. In order to reduce the risk of particulate
contamination of the product, it is recommended that a draw-off needle be used to reduce the
number of times the septum is punctured or, as per direction of registered Veterinarian.
Side effect
Administration by the intramuscular route may cause transient local reactions such as pain and
swelling at the injection site and inflammatory lesions, which may persist for at least 12 days
after injection. Greenish coloring of faeces at the end of treatment has sometimes been shown.
Contraindication
Should not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to Marbofloxacin or to any other quinolone
or to any of the excipients. Do not use in cases where the pathogen involved is resistant to other
fluoroquinolones.
Drug interaction
Efficacy of Marbofloxacin may be reduced after using with cyclosporine, flunixin, iron, zinc &
antacids etc.
Use in pregnancy & laying
Dose of 2mg/kg body weight: Safe to use in pregnant and lactating animals.
Dose of 8mg/kg body weight: Safety has not been established in the pregnant cow or in suckling
calves. Therefore, should be used only according to the benefit/risk assessment.
Withdrawal Period
Cattle 2mg/kg: Meat: 6 days; Milk: 36 hrs
Cattle 8mg/kg: Meat: 3 days; Milk: 72 hrs
