Description

This test measures blood glucose levels one hour after consuming a 100-gram glucose solution. It helps assess how effectively the body processes glucose and is mainly used to screen for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) during pregnancy. Note: Arogga will provide Glucose (Charge applicable)

Overview

Overview

The 1 Hour After 100gm Glucose Test measures how the body processes glucose one hour after consuming 100 grams of oral glucose. It is primarily used as part of the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) for diagnosing Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) in pregnant women.

Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment

  • Primary use: Screening and diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM)

  • Secondary use: Evaluation of glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity

  • High-risk individuals:

    • Pregnant women with obesity, family history of diabetes, or previous GDM

    • Individuals with unexplained macrosomia in prior pregnancy

Normal Range

Normal Range (1 hour after 100 gm glucose)

Category Blood Glucose (mg/dL)
Normal < 180 mg/dL
Borderline / Impaired 180–199 mg/dL
Abnormal / Positive for GDM ≥ 180 mg/dL

Interpretation

Interpretation

  • < 180 mg/dL: Normal glucose tolerance.

  • ≥ 180 mg/dL: Indicates impaired glucose tolerance; if confirmed with other time points (fasting, 2-hour, 3-hour), may diagnose gestational diabetes.

  • Persistently high values indicate the body’s inability to efficiently utilize insulin and maintain normal glucose levels.
