Essential tests to ensure safety and readiness before undergoing anesthesia or surgery.
- Urine Routine Examination (Urine R/E)
- CBC
- Serum Creatinine
- Serum Urea
- ICT for HBsAg
The PACU test panel is a pre-operative screening designed to evaluate a patient’s fitness for anesthesia and surgery. It includes basic blood and urine investigations along with viral markers and coagulation profile to detect any hidden medical conditions that may complicate anesthesia or the surgical procedure. Included Tests and Their Purpose: CBC (Complete Blood Count)-Evaluates hemoglobin, WBC, and platelets; screens for anemia, infection, bleeding risk. Blood Sugar (Fasting/Random)- Assess diabetes/hypoglycemia risk Renal Function Test (RFT)-Assesses kidney function via urea, creatinine, and electrolytes. Serum Electrolytes-Checks levels of sodium, potassium, chloride, essential for cardiac and neuromuscular function. Urine R/E (Routine Examination)-Detects urinary tract infection, glucose, protein, ketones. HBsAg-Screens for Hepatitis B infection. Anti-HCV-Screens for Hepatitis C infection. PT (Prothrombin Time)-Measures blood clotting time; detects bleeding/clotting disorders. INR (International Normalized Ratio)-Standardized PT value; used especially in patients on anticoagulants. Blood Grouping & Rh Typing-Identifies blood group and Rh factor; critical for transfusions.

Overview:
Pre-Anesthetic Check-Up (PACU) is a routine medical evaluation done before anesthesia and surgery to assess a patient's fitness, reduce surgical risks, and plan anesthesia safely.
|
Test Name |
Purpose |
|
CBC (Complete Blood Count) |
Detect anemia, infection, platelet status |
|
Blood Grouping & Rh Typing |
Cross-matching, emergency transfusion planning |
|
Blood Sugar (Fasting/Random) |
Assess diabetes/hypoglycemia risk |
|
Serum Creatinine |
Kidney function (drug metabolism/excretion) |
|
S. Urea |
Kidney function (drug metabolism/excretion) |
|
Electrolytes (Na+, K+, Cl-) |
Cardiac/neural function, fluid balance |
|
HBsAg |
Screens for Hepatitis B infection. |
|
Anti HCV |
Screens for Hepatitis C infection. |
|
PT/INR |
Assess bleeding/clotting risk |
|
Urine R/E |
Detect infection, glucose, protein |
Risk Assessment Goals:
- Identify comorbidities (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, asthma, CVD)
- Predict airway difficulty or allergy risks
- Assess organ functions (cardiac, renal, hepatic)
- Evaluate bleeding risk
- Prevent anesthetic complications
