    2. The patient consumes a 75-gram glucose solution.
    3. Blood glucose levels are measured at intervals, commonly at 1 hour and 2 hours, but sometimes also at 3 hours post-consumption.

    • Pregnant women (typically between 24-28 weeks of gestation).

Normal ranges
  • Fasting glucose: < 100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L)
  • 1-hour glucose: < 180 mg/dL (10.0 mmol/L)
  • 2-hour glucose: < 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L)
  • 3-hour glucose: Not typically used in standard practice, but values should ideally return to fasting levels or be below 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L) as a general indicator.
Interpretation
  • Normal Glucose Tolerance: 2-hour glucose < 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L)
  • Impaired Glucose Tolerance (Prediabetes): 2-hour glucose 140-199 mg/dL (7.8-11.0 mmol/L)
  • Diabetes Mellitus: 2-hour glucose ≥ 200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L).
