Sagudana(সাগু দানা)

সাবুদানা:

সাবুদানা’ বা ‘সাগু’ পরিচিত একটি খাদ্য উপাদান। এটি সহজপাচ্য শর্করা বা কার্বোহাইড্রেট সমৃদ্ধ খাবার। শিশুর জন্য দুধ-সাবু খুবই পুষ্টিকর খাদ্য।

প্রাচীনকালে রোগী বা শিশুর খাবারের তালিকায় থাকলেও বর্তমানে এতে আধুনিকতার ছোঁয়া লেগেছে। বিভিন্ন খাবার তৈরিতে ব্যবহার করা হচ্ছে এই সাবুদানা।

কিন্তু কোথা থেকে আসে এই সাবুদানা বা সাগু। এটি কি কোনো গাছে ধরে? নাকি হাতে বা মেশিনে তৈরি করা হয়? আসুন আজ জেনে নিই সাবুদানার উৎপত্তি ও ক্রমবিকাশ সম্পর্কে-

এক প্রকার পাম গাছ থেকে সাবুদানা উৎপাদিত হয়। যার বৈজ্ঞানিক নাম ‘মেট্রোক্সিলোন সাগু’। এর ‘মেট্রোক্সিলোন’ শব্দটি গ্রিক ‘মেট্রো’ থেকে এসেছে। যার অর্থ ‘গাছের নরম অন্তসার’।

আর ‘এক্সিলোন’ শব্দটি ‘কাঠ’ অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। প্রকৃত পাম বলতে এই সাবুর গাছকেই বোঝায়। এটি এরিকাসি পরিবারের একটি উদ্ভিদ। লম্বায় ৭-১৭ মিটার পর্যন্ত হয়। কখনো

কখনো ২৫ মিটার পর্যন্ত লম্বা হয়। প্রতি গাছে ২০-২৫টির মতো পাতা হয়। এটি একটি ওষুধি গাছ। এতে একবারই ফুল ফোটে এবং ফল ধরার পর গাছ মারা যায়।
