Description

The Renal Function Test (RFT) is a collection of blood tests designed to evaluate the efficiency of kidney function by measuring the waste products that kidneys filter. This particular panel is instrumental in identifying both acute and chronic kidney diseases, monitoring the renal health of individuals at elevated risk(such as those with diabetes or hypertension), and generally assessing the overall condition of the kidneys.

How our test process works!

Step 1

Sample Collection

Vaccinated Phlebotomists collects from syringe in the barcoded vials

Step 2

Sample Storage

Only vaccinated phelbos are assigned orders

Step 3

High Tech Facility

Lab ingests the sample into processing machines which are 100% automated

Step 4

Accurate Digital Reports

The reports are generated by the processing machines and clinically correlated by doctors

Overview

Overview:
Renal Function Tests evaluate how well the kidneys are filtering waste and maintaining homeostasis. This panel typically includes:

  1. Serum Creatinine
  2. Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)
  3. Urea
  4. Serum Uric Acid
  5. Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR)
Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment:

  • Screen or monitor kidney diseases
  •  Evaluate hypertension, diabetes, or cardiovascular risk
  • Detect drug nephrotoxicity (e.g., NSAIDs, aminoglycosides)
  • Assess fluid/electrolyte imbalances
normal range

Serum Creatinine:

  • Men: 0.7–1.3 mg/dL
  • Women: 0.6–1.1 mg/dL

Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN): 7–20 mg/dL

Urea: 10–40 mg/dL (may vary)

Serum Uric Acid:

  • Men: 3.5–7.0 mg/dL
  • Women: 2.5–6.0 mg/dL

Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR): ≥ 90 mL/min/1.73 m²

Interpretation

Interpretation:

Urea

  • Elevated in: Kidney dysfunction, dehydration, high protein diet, GI bleeding

  • Decreased in: Liver failure, malnutrition, overhydration

Serum Creatinine

  • Elevated in: Renal impairment, muscle breakdown

  • Decreased in: Low muscle mass

Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)

  • High in kidney dysfunction, dehydration; low in liver disease

Serum Uric Acid

  • Elevated in: Gout, CKD, high cell turnover

  • Decreased in: Liver disease, SIADH, certain medications

Estimated GFR (eGFR)

  • < 60: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) suspicion
  • < 15: Kidney failure

Sample Type

Sample Type:

Serum (venous blood sample)
No fasting required (optional in some labs)
